The Afghanistan Polio-Free Initiative has announced that the poliovirus, which causes polio, can be transmitted by anyone at any age and urged people not to become carriers of the virus.
The initiative said on Wednesday, September 9, on X that everyone, regardless of age, should receive a polio vaccine when traveling.
The Afghanistan Polio-Free Initiative emphasized that vaccinating people while traveling can help prevent the transmission of the poliovirus.
The initiative had previously said that the polio vaccine is a safe and effective way to protect children against the disease and urged families to have their children vaccinated.
The remarks come as Taliban health officials in Nangarhar recently announced that five positive cases of polio had been recorded in the province.
