The organization “Polio-Free Afghanistan” has announced the launch of a polio vaccination campaign in Nangarhar Province as part of efforts to eradicate the disease in Afghanistan.
The organization wrote on X on Thursday, June 11, that the campaign will begin next Saturday in districts across Nangarhar Province.
According to the announcement, both the injectable polio vaccine (fIPV) and the oral polio vaccine (OPV) will be administered to children during the campaign.
Polio-Free Afghanistan said that administering these two vaccines simultaneously strengthens children’s immune systems and plays an important role in preventing the spread of the poliovirus.
The organization urged families to vaccinate their children to protect them against polio.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has also stated that polio has no cure but is preventable, and that every child should be protected against the disease.
