The “Afghanistan Free of Polio” initiative has announced that a polio vaccination campaign will begin today in 39 districts across five provinces to prevent the spread of the poliovirus.

The organization said on Monday, August 17, on X that the campaign will be conducted in 22 districts of Nangarhar, seven districts of Kunar, six districts of Kabul, two districts of Herat and two districts of Farah.

The campaign aims to respond quickly to recent positive polio cases and prevent further spread of the virus.

During the campaign, children in the designated districts will receive polio vaccines to prevent infection and transmission of the poliovirus.

Previously, Taliban officials at the Nangarhar Public Health Directorate said that five positive cases of polio had been recorded in the province since the beginning of the year.
