The initiative known as “Polio-Free Afghanistan” has declared the imminent launch of a polio vaccination campaign spanning numerous provinces within the nation.
In an announcement via their X page, the organization revealed that the campaign is slated to kick off on Monday, February 26, encompassing 21 provinces across Afghanistan.
Throughout this extensive campaign, children under the age of five will be administered the crucial polio vaccine within these specified provinces.
Thus far in the current year, the country has reported four instances of polio, all originating from Nangarhar province.
It remains noteworthy that Afghanistan and Pakistan persist as the sole nations worldwide where cases of childhood polio persist.
Notably, Afghanistan’s polio vaccination campaign at both provincial and district levels is executed every quarter, ensuring consistent coverage and accessibility.
