Local sources in Paktia province report that dozens of female students took to the streets to protest the closure of girls’ schools above the sixth grade in this province. The female students call on the Taliban group to lift restrictions imposed on female students.
On Saturday, this march was launched in the city of Gardez, the center of Paktia province.
According to local sources, the female protesters are demanding an end to restrictions placed on girls’ secondary and high schools.
Last week, sources in Paktia province had declared the reopening of girls’ schools above the sixth grade in this province but the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid stated he was unaware of this issue and added that the reopening of girls’ schools relates to the Ministry of Education.
After taking control of Afghanistan in August 2021, the Taliban rebels closed the doors of girls’ schools above the sixth grade; unfortunately, the reopening of girls’ schools is still unclear and the ignorant group has not made any decisive decision over this vital issue.
