Richard Bennett, the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, has condemned the Taliban’s execution of a man in Khost Province, calling such executions a grave violation of human rights and human dignity.
In a post on X on Tuesday, December 2, Bennett wrote that these executions are also inconsistent with Islamic law.
He stated: “The public execution of a man today in a sports stadium in Khost Province, Afghanistan, was carried out by a 13-year-old boy, witnessed by thousands of people, including children. Such executions constitute a severe violation of human rights and human dignity, and they are not compatible with Islamic law.”
This comes as the Taliban today executed a man named Mangal at Khost’s central stadium.
The Taliban claimed that around 80,000 people had gathered at the stadium to witness the execution.
