Local sources claim that a resident of Balkh has been killed by gunmen affiliated with the Taliban.
Sources told Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, May 5, that the victim was identified as Agha Niaz, son of Mohammad Yousuf, originally from the village of Islam Chankar in Shortepa district of Balkh.
According to the sources, Agha Niaz had been working as a daily laborer on the Qosh Tepa Canal project.
The sources added that he had recently visited his family.
Based on information from the sources, he was grazing his cows when he was killed by gunmen affiliated with the Taliban.
Sources also said that some time ago, a Turkmen community elder named Karim Pahlawan Agha was killed by members of the Taliban in the Charbolak district of Balkh.
This comes as, over the past few weeks, two tribal elders have also been killed in Sar-e Pol and Jowzjan provinces.
