Sources from Ghor say that Colonel Abdullah Rahimi, the former head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) in Taywara district of Ghor province under the previous government, was assassinated at his residence last evening.
The sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Sunday, July 12, that he was killed while performing evening prayers at a mosque near his home.
According to the sources, Rahimi was a former jihadi commander, had previously served as the deputy head of the National Directorate of Security in Ghor province, and his last position was as the NDS chief in Taywara district.
Sources said that he was one of the commanders of Dr. Ibrahim Malekzada, a former influential figure of Jamiat-e Islami in Ghor province, who died about eight years ago.
It is said that Rahimi had personal disputes with some individuals; however, sources said his assassination could not have been carried out by personal enemies, as he is the third former security official in Taywara district to have been killed since the beginning of the current solar year.
Meanwhile, despite the general amnesty announced by Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, dozens of cases of arrests, torture, and extrajudicial killings of former government security and military personnel by Taliban fighters have been reported.
