Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that he welcomes the “extraordinary” efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump to promote peace in the region.
In a post on X early Sunday, May 24, Sharif said Trump held a “useful and constructive” phone call with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif added that Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, represented the country in the call and that he appreciated his “tireless efforts” throughout the process.
He said the discussions provided an important opportunity to exchange views on the current regional situation and ways to advance ongoing efforts toward achieving lasting peace.
The Pakistani prime minister emphasized that his country will continue its peace efforts with “utmost sincerity” and expressed hope that the next round of talks will be held soon.
