Local sources in Nangarhar have reported that a child was killed when a mortar shell exploded in the province.

Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Monday, October 26, that the incident occurred on Sunday evening in the Gandamak area of Sherzad district.

According to the sources, the incident happened when a 12-year-old child found a mortar shell and was playing with it.

Unexploded ordnance and remnants of explosives from past conflicts continue to threaten the lives of people in Afghanistan, particularly children.

In a similar incident a few days earlier, three children were killed in Khogyani district of the same province.
