Sources in Kabul say the Khatam al-Nabiyyin Seminary has been surrounded by Taliban fighters as part of efforts to fully evacuate the facility.
The sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Saturday, September 5, that Taliban fighters surrounded the Khatam al-Nabiyyin Seminary at 2:00 p.m. today on the orders of Abdul Hakim Sharaee, the Taliban’s Minister of Justice, and disarmed its guards.
According to the sources, the Taliban sent fighters equipped with military equipment to the site to fully evacuate the seminary.
The sources said Taliban fighters are preventing students inside the building from leaving and are not allowing people who are outside to enter.
The sources added that Taliban fighters are currently negotiating with the seminary’s professors, and it remains unclear what will ultimately happen to the institution.
This comes after the seminary’s board of trustees announced in July that the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice had closed and sealed its mosque, Hussainiya, library, and men’s and women’s religious schools.
