Sources from Badakhshan say that the Taliban is planning to transfer Juma Khan Fateh, a disgruntled Taliban commander, to Kabul.
The sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Sunday, July 12, that Juma Khan Fateh was transferred to Faizabad city after spending one night in Darwaz district.
According to the information, Fateh was taken to Fayzabad along with Mawlavi Amanuddin, the Taliban governor of Helmand, Mawlavi Shamsuddin Shariati, and several local figures from Darwaz, accompanied by 10 armed men.
The sources said that Taliban officials in Badakhshan, following instructions from Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s interior minister, have guaranteed Juma Khan Fateh’s security.
According to the sources, the Taliban has promised Fateh an appointment as the district governor of Nusay district and the head of the General Directorate of Darwaz.
This comes after Abdul Rahman Ammar, a local Taliban commander in Badakhshan’s Shahr-e Buzurg district, was arrested and imprisoned by the Taliban last year after being transferred to Kabul through the mediation of Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Taliban army chief, and Saifuddin Tayeb, deputy head of the Taliban’s Office of Administrative Affairs.
Abdul Rahman Ammar had been sent to Kandahar by Taliban officials to seek “mediation” from the group’s leader before his arrest, following clashes over a gold mine in Shahr-e Buzurg district. However, Mullah Haibatullah refused to meet with him.
