The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation says 325 Afghan migrants have been released from prisons in Pakistan.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 6, the ministry said the migrants were released during the past week and returned to Afghanistan.
According to the Taliban, the group included families and children who had been detained in Pakistan for various reasons.
The statement said that 156 of the former detainees re-entered Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing in Nangarhar province, while another 169 returned via the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province.
In recent months, Pakistan has intensified the detention and deportation of Afghan migrants.
Pakistani authorities have previously said that migrants without valid residency documents, as well as those found to have violated the country’s laws, would be detained and returned to Afghanistan.
