Local sources in Ghazni province report that Taliban’s extortion under the pretext of having weapons in Khaja Omari district has turned the situation out of tolerance and miserable for the residents of this district.
On Saturday, October 29, local sources said that the Taliban have imprisoned and tortured the residents of Khaja Omari district in recent days under the pretext of having weapons. The sources further added that the detained individuals were released in exchange for money and their stories of experiencing the Taliban’s prison is heartbreaking.
According to information from local sources, a farmer in this district paid 100,000 AFN for the release of his son, who was imprisoned by the Taliban, after selling a dairy cow, which was the source of his family’s income.
It is the first case of forced extortion by the Taliban. Similar cases of extortion, torture, and harassment by the Taliban across the country have been reported many times.
