UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that 12.7 million children in Afghanistan have been vaccinated against polio.

In a statement on Friday, October 30, UNICEF said Afghanistan is one of only two countries where the wild poliovirus remains endemic.

UNICEF added that efforts to eradicate the disease are continuing.

Meanwhile, the United Nations had earlier reported six new cases of polio in Afghanistan.

With these cases, the total number of polio cases reported in the country since the beginning of this year has reached 42.

Afghanistan and Pakistan remain the only countries in the world where polio has not been fully eradicated.
