Officials from the Taliban’s Department for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice in Nangarhar province have announced that they burned 86 musical instruments in the city of Jalalabad.
In a statement released on Sunday, December 28, the department said the instruments had been collected from the Ninth District of Jalalabad.
The statement said the Taliban’s morality police acted as part of what they described as “reforming society, preventing immoral acts, and enforcing Islamic principles.”
Since the Taliban returned to power, music has been banned nationwide, and multiple reports have documented the collection and destruction of musical instruments in various provinces across the country.
