The Taliban, while confirming the arrest of Nazira Rashidi, a local journalist in Kunduz province, have claimed that she and four other women were arrested in connection with a “criminal case.”
Juma-ul-Din Khaksar, spokesman for the Taliban Security Command in Kunduz Province, claimed on Monday, January 12, 2026, that Rashidi was not arrested in connection with her media activities.
The spokesman for the Taliban Security Command in Kunduz added that Rashidi is currently not working with any media outlet.
The Taliban have not provided details about the accusation of her arrest in connection with a “criminal case.”
Media support organizations reported two days ago about the arrest of Nazira Rashidi, one of Kunduz’s local journalists, by the Taliban.
Media support organizations, including NAI and AMSO, said in separate statements that the reason for Rashidi’s arrest is unclear, but she is being tortured in a Taliban prison.
The Taliban have also reported the arrest of four other women, but have not provided details about the reason for their arrests.
