The Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce has announced that the annual trade volume between Afghanistan and Iran has reached $3.6 billion.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 6, the ministry said that Iran is currently Afghanistan’s largest trading partner.
According to the statement, Afghanistan exports precious stones, dried fruits, agricultural products, non-alcoholic beverages, coal, and plant-based products to Iran.
Afghanistan also imports fuel, food products, industrial goods, raw materials, iron, carpets, and other essential commodities from Iran.
This comes as repeated disruptions and stoppages in trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan have prompted the Taliban to expand trade relations with neighboring countries, including Iran, and establish alternative routes to secure the country’s essential goods.
