Local sources in Paktia province report that the Taliban have laid off 90 teachers and administrative staff from the province’s university. Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, that the staff reductions have been implemented across all departments of Paktia University.
According to the sources, among those dismissed are 35 instructors, 18 doctors from the university’s teaching hospital, and the rest are contractual employees of the university. The sources added that the laid-off instructors held academic ranks of Associate Professor and PhD degrees.
Sources also stated that a list of additional instructors at Paktia University has been prepared for future layoffs. This suggests that the reduction process at the university is ongoing.
Meanwhile, sources from Khost province previously told the Hasht-e Subh Daily that the Taliban had dismissed 120 professors and employees of Sheikh Zayed University under the same justification of “staff reductions.” It is worth noting that the process of downsizing government employees under the Taliban administration has been underway for some time.
