Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, has traveled to India at the head of a delegation.
The Taliban-run Ministry of Industry and Commerce said in a statement on Wednesday, November 19, that the purpose of the trip is to activate and make effective use of the Chabahar Port corridor, attract Indian investors along this route, and expand bilateral trade between Afghanistan and India.
The Taliban delegation is scheduled to meet India’s foreign and commerce ministers during the visit.
The group has described the trip as an important step toward strengthening trade ties with India.
Azizi is the second senior Taliban official, after Amir Khan Muttaqi, to visit India within roughly one month.
The visit comes as trade between the Taliban and Pakistan has been halted due to recent tensions.
Before this trip, Azizi had visited Iran to discuss options for using the Chabahar Port with Iranian officials.
