The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan has worsened due to the ongoing border clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan.
UNICEF reported on Monday, 11 May 2026, that from 26 February to 17 March, at least 289 civilians, many of them women and children, were killed or injured.
According to the report, these clashes, involving airstrikes, artillery, and drone attacks, have affected at least ten provinces, including major cities such as Kabul.
UNICEF said that Pakistani attacks have continued to cause widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure, including homes, telecommunications facilities, and commercial buildings.
The organization added that around 115,000 people have been displaced so far, of whom more than 40,000 have been officially registered and assessed.
The closure of borders and rising insecurity have further disrupted markets and increased the prices of essential food items by 20 to 40 percent.
UNICEF stated that health, nutrition, and education services have been severely affected, with many facilities destroyed or closed, and thousands of children left out of school.
