The Taliban have announced that they arrested four people in Badakhshan on charges of drug trafficking and seized 130 kilograms of drugs and two firearms from them.
Bakhtar News Agency, under the Taliban control, reported on Saturday, September 26, that the individuals were arrested in Tashkan district of Badakhshan province.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Interior also said the individuals were identified and arrested on charges of drug trafficking.
Drug trafficking and production remain major challenges in Afghanistan, exposing many people to addiction each year.
The United Nations has also repeatedly stressed the importance of continued support for Afghanistan in preventing and treating drug addiction and helping people recover from substance use.
