The Taliban-controlled National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) has announced that nearly 18.3 million people in Afghanistan have so far received electronic identity cards.
The Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency (BNA) reported on Monday, September 28, that electronic identity cards were distributed to 827,060 people in the first six months of 2026.
According to Taliban statistics, of those who received cards during this period, 600,546 were men, and 226,514 were women.
Kabul, with 232,696 cards issued, recorded the highest number of distributed identity cards among the provinces of Afghanistan.
After Kabul, the provinces of Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, and Balkh rank next.
The Taliban have said that electronic identity card services are currently provided through 87 centers inside Afghanistan, and that an “Asan Khidmat” (Easy Service) center is also operating in Abu Dhabi to provide these services.
