The Taliban have announced the arrival of Barham Salih, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and Alexander De Croo, the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in Kabul.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation announced the visit in a statement posted on X on Sunday, July 5.
According to the statement, Barham Salih said the purpose of their visit is to assess the living conditions and challenges facing Afghans firsthand.
He added that since 2023, six million Afghans have returned from abroad, describing the figure as significant by international standards.
However, the United Nations has said that Afghanistan is facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
