Local sources say that the 20-bed hospital in Maimay district, Badakhshan province, has still not become operational more than eight years after its construction, and it continues to provide no health services to the residents of this district.
Speaking to the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the sources said that the hospital is located in the village of Jamarch-e Ulya, and despite the region’s urgent need for health services, it remains unused.
According to the sources, residents of Maimay district are forced to travel long and difficult distances at great expense to reach Faizabad in order to receive medical treatment.
The sources add that making this hospital operational could help ease some of the health problems facing residents of the region and prevent the high costs of travel and treatment.
They say that the provision of health services at this facility, particularly for women and children, could also help reduce the risk of maternal and infant mortality.
The sources also say that residents have repeatedly approached the officials responsible for the hospital to follow up on its status, but their demands have gone unaddressed.
