Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, says democracy is a daily process to ensure human rights, the rule of law, and the meaningful participation of all people in civic and political life.
Guterres wrote on his X page on Tuesday, September 15, that based on his personal experience of the challenges of restoring democracy in his country, he knows that democracy should never be taken for granted.
He stressed that preserving and strengthening democracy requires an enduring commitment.
The UN Secretary-General added that it must be ensured that every voice is heard and taken into account in decision-making.
According to Guterres, democracy should provide the foundation for peace, uphold human dignity, and enable the participation of all segments of society.
