The National Statistics and Information Authority under Taliban control has announced that fees for national identity card (tazkira) verification services have been abolished, and these services will henceforth be provided free of charge.
The authority, in a press release issued on Monday, February 23, stated that this decision was made based on a decree by the Taliban Supreme Leader in order to facilitate matters for applicants.
According to the press release, errors made by staff in identity cards and incorrectly recorded information will be corrected free of charge, following confirmation by relevant officials in provinces, districts, and electronic identity card service centers.
This comes as some citizens had previously complained about the rising cost of electronic identity cards.
According to statistics provided by the Taliban’s National Statistics and Information Authority, more than one million and 66,000 citizens of Afghanistan have been issued electronic identity cards in the first six months of 2025.
