The Taliban have ordered that law, political science, and international relations programmes be gradually removed from private universities in Afghanistan.
A document obtained by the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, August 25, shows that the order was discussed and decided upon by the Taliban Leadership Council.
The Taliban cited low student enrollment in law, political science, and international relations faculties at private universities, as well as limited employment opportunities for graduates of these programmes, as the reasons for their removal.
Under the decision, private universities have been asked to submit alternative proposals for replacing these programmes.
The Taliban’s Directorate of Academic Programme Development has also been tasked with proposing other suitable fields of study to replace them.
According to the document, the proposed programmes should be those that attract more applicants and offer broader employment opportunities.
The document states that medicine and stomatology programmes are exempt from this decision.
