The Taliban have claimed that 13 trade agreements worth more than $100 million have been signed with the Republic of Karakalpakstan in Uzbekistan.
Media outlets under the Taliban’s control reported on Sunday, May 10, that the agreements were signed between the two sides across 13 sectors.
According to the Taliban, the agreements include the construction of a flour production factory, the import of flour, cement, oil, and pasta, as well as the export of apples, pomegranates, potatoes, and cumin.
Yesterday, the Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce announced that a delegation from Uzbekistan had arrived in Kabul.
Following tensions with Pakistan and the closure of border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Taliban have sought to strengthen relations with Central Asian countries.
A few days earlier, however, Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed officials in his country to work on expanding trade relations with Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
Although Uzbekistan has not officially recognized the Taliban, it continues to maintain broad engagement with the group.
