Kabul – The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has welcomed the United States’ decision to allow the transfer of personal remittances to Afghanistan.
“The US Treasury Department has issued a public authorization allowing Afghans living in the US to send money to their families through legal / banking ways,” said Inamullah Samangani, deputy spokesman of the Taliban in a tweet today Sunday, December 12.
Samangani is hopeful and has welcomed the decision, saying all Afghans would have access to all parts of the global banking system.
The US issued a policy allowing personal remittances to be sent to Afghanistan, Reuters reported on Friday, December 10.
According to Reuters, the measure protects individuals and financial institutions from US sanctions on the Taliban as Afghanistan faces a humanitarian crisis and economic collapse.
Meanwhile, the Treasury Department also reportedly allows members of the US-blacklisted Haqqani network and the Taliban to transfer non-commercial and personal remittances to Afghanistan.
