The United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran, targeting eight oil tankers and 10 entities linked to the country’s oil trade.
Al Jazeera reported on Wednesday, July 29, that the sanctions are part of Washington’s new measures under its “maximum pressure” policy against Iran.
According to the report, the United States has increased sanctions in recent months against Iran’s oil trade and its so-called “shadow fleet.”
The US Treasury Department is reportedly seeking to cut off the revenue that it says funds Tehran’s weapons programmes and regional proxy forces.
The move comes as tensions between the United States and Iran have increased in the Middle East, raising further concerns about the impact of the situation on global energy markets.
