Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has accused Canada of openly colluding with the US in an economic war against Iran.
Tasnim reported early Tuesday, September 8, that Iran’s Foreign Ministry made the accusation in response to a joint statement by Canada’s foreign and finance ministers regarding severe US economic sanctions against Iran.
According to the report, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson claimed that Canada was following a path of “appeasing” the United States.
He added: “…Canada’s foreign and finance ministers have decided to once again follow the path of appeasing their bully neighbor, this time by targeting Iran through a statement filled with distortions of the facts.”
Relations between Canada and Iran had previously deteriorated over the downing of a Ukrainian passenger plane by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) several years ago.
