U.S. President Donald Trump has described Pakistan’s airstrikes against the Taliban as “outstanding.”
On Friday, February 27, Trump, responding to journalists’ questions about the clashes between Islamabad and the Taliban, called Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir “great leaders.”
Trump stated that he would intervene in the conflict between Pakistan and the Taliban.
The U.S. president added that he maintains very good relations with Pakistan and respects its leaders.
He told reporters, “I will intervene. But I get along very, very well with Pakistan. They have an excellent prime minister, an excellent general. Great leadership. Two people I have tremendous respect for. Pakistan is doing an outstanding job.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department has emphasized Pakistan’s right to defend itself.
This comes as many regional countries have expressed concern over the escalating conflict between the Taliban and Pakistan.
