US President Donald Trump has identified the war with Iran as one of the factors behind the Republican Party’s defeat in the midterm elections, but has defended his decision to launch the war.
Trump said on Wednesday, November 4, that he had done the right thing and would make the same decision again if given the opportunity.
He added that the war with Iran had played a significant role in the Republican Party’s heavy defeat in the midterm elections.
The war, which has now entered its ninth month, has faced opposition from many US citizens since it began.
Democrats also argued during their election campaign that the war with Iran had contributed to rising fuel prices and the cost of other goods.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, had also previously said that the American people opposed the war and that the US government should not ignore their wishes.
He stressed that Americans wanted the war to end because of their opposition to it and the pressure of the rising cost of living, warning that ignoring their demands would have serious consequences.
