British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump have held a phone conversation regarding the necessity of reopening the Strait of Hormuz and the consequences of keeping this route closed for the global economy.
Reuters reported on Sunday, 26 April, that Starmer and Trump emphasized in the call the importance of resuming the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
A spokesperson for the UK Prime Minister’s Office said the two sides discussed the severe impacts of the current situation on the global economy and the rising cost of living in the United Kingdom and other countries around the world.
According to the report, the conversation also covered the latest developments related to a joint UK and France initiative to restore “freedom of navigation.”
The call comes as tensions in the Strait of Hormuz continue due to the war between the United States and Iran.
Trump said that Iran can contact the United States if it wishes to hold negotiations, but its representatives will not travel to Pakistan.
