Local sources say that one boy and one girl were killed and another girl was seriously injured after an unexploded ordnance detonated in Khost province.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, September 15, that the incident occurred today in the Namro area of Khost province.
According to the sources, the victims were a 10-year-old boy and two girls between the ages of 10 and 12.
The sources added that the ordnance exploded after the children found it and began playing with it.
This comes as unexploded ordnance left behind from past wars in parts of Afghanistan continues to pose a serious threat to civilians, particularly children.
Every year, several citizens of Afghanistan are killed or injured as a result of landmine and unexploded ordnance explosions.
