Two members of Iran’s delegation to the United Nations General Assembly have been expelled from the United States.
Axios, citing a U.S. official, reported on Saturday, October 3, that the two diplomats had remained in the country for several days after the General Assembly in New York ended, despite a request from the U.S. State Department that they leave immediately.
According to the official, the State Department informed Iran’s mission to the United Nations again on Friday that it was aware of the two diplomats’ presence in New York and asked them to leave the United States immediately.
The official added that one of the diplomats left the United States on Friday evening, while the other departed on Saturday morning.
The move comes amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran, while diplomatic efforts to end the war have faced challenges.
