The United Arab Emirates Aid Agency has signed a $3 million agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to build homes for nearly 3,000 Afghans who have returned to the country.
The Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Monday, October 26, that the agreement will fund the construction of permanent homes for 2,950 Afghan returnees.
The homes will be built in Kabul, Herat and Kunduz provinces and will be designed to withstand the effects of climate change.
The agreement was announced during AidEx 2026, a humanitarian aid and disaster relief conference held in Geneva on October 21 and 22.
The project aims to provide sustainable shelter for Afghan returnees and help them rebuild their lives.
The program will particularly focus on supporting vulnerable women and children.
The UAE Aid Agency said the initiative is intended to support people affected by humanitarian crises and provide sustainable solutions for displaced populations.
