UN Women has announced that women and girls in Afghanistan are deprived of equal rights and fair access to justice.
The organization said on Tuesday, August 25, in a post on X that five years after the Taliban took power, half of Afghanistan’s population has fewer rights than the other half in terms of legal status and access to justice.
UN Women added that this situation reflects the reality of life for women and girls in Afghanistan, who continue to face widespread restrictions on their rights and freedoms.
Referring to the existing challenges and restrictions, the organization emphasized the importance of equality for women before the law.
UN Women has previously also expressed concern over the restrictions imposed on Afghan women and girls and called for their equal rights to be ensured.
