The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is helping vulnerable returnee families in Herat repair their shelters.
The agency said on Sunday, November 1, that the initiative is being implemented with support from the United Nations Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan (UN STFA).
According to the UN, the project goes beyond repairing roofs. It aims to provide families with security, preserve their dignity and give them peace of mind.
UN-Habitat said the current assistance does not meet the needs of returnee families and that additional support is required.
The agency described adequate housing as a human right, stressing that it should not be treated as a privilege.
