The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has announced that it will help 800 vulnerable returnees in Kunduz and Baghlan provinces repair and improve their shelters.
The agency said on Tuesday, September 22, on X that the program is being implemented with support from the Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan (STFA).
UN-Habitat added that returning families urgently need adequate shelter and that the program aims to help rebuild the homes of those in need.
The United Nations said that despite the launch of the program, the need for shelter among returnees remains extensive, with many families requiring assistance to rebuild their homes.
The development comes as the large-scale return of Afghans from neighboring countries has placed significant pressure on host communities.
The Taliban previously announced that more than 617,000 people had returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan during the first six months of the current year.
