The United Nations Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan (UN-STFA) has announced that more than 72,000 square metres of land in Kunduz and Baghlan provinces have been cleared of explosive remnants of war.
In a statement on Thursday, November 5, the fund said the operation was carried out under the joint “Paaydar” project, with financial support from the fund.
It added that, alongside clearing the land, families had also been educated about the dangers posed by explosive remnants.
Meanwhile, large areas of Afghanistan remain contaminated with explosive remnants of war.
According to United Nations reports, Afghanistan is among the countries with the highest numbers of casualties caused by unexploded ordnance.
The UN has warned that explosive remnants of war and unexploded ordnance continue to pose a serious threat to civilians, particularly children, across Afghanistan.
