The defense ministries of Syria and Saudi Arabia have signed a cooperation agreement during Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s visit to Saudi Arabia.
Al Jazeera reported early Thursday, November 5, that al-Sharaa met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh on Wednesday.
According to the report, their discussions focused on regional and global security, energy supplies, and reducing tensions in the Middle East through peaceful means.
The Syrian and Saudi leaders also called for an immediate halt to actions threatening the safety of shipping and waterways in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, and the Strait of Hormuz.
No details have been released about the contents of the agreement signed by the two countries’ defense ministries. However, reports last month indicated that Syria was considering providing military assistance to Saudi Arabia amid the kingdom’s war against the Houthis in Yemen.
