The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Afghanistan says women entrepreneurs in Kunduz and Baghlan provinces have expanded their businesses with the organization’s support, creating opportunities for other women and girls to access education, employment, and income-generating activities.
The organization reported on Wednesday, October 21, that supporting women entrepreneurs helps improve household economic conditions and create employment opportunities for women.
According to the report, a tailoring center in Baghlan province has expanded its operations and increased the number of women employed after receiving financial assistance and equipment.
In addition to producing clothing, the center now provides tailoring and embroidery training to young women and girls. Among its trainees are 15 women and girls who have returned to Afghanistan.
UNDP said the support has enabled trainees to earn income by helping fulfill customer orders.
The organization added that its support for women entrepreneurs in Kunduz and Baghlan has strengthened their businesses while creating jobs and helping other women develop skills and earn an income.
