The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced efforts to protect and restore the Minaret of Jam, one of Afghanistan’s World Heritage sites.
The organization said on Sunday, October 11, that with financial support from the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas (ALIPH), measures had been taken to monitor the condition of the Minaret of Jam, reduce flood-related risks and ensure the long-term preservation of the historic monument.
According to UNESCO, the regular review of recorded data helps specialists assess the structural condition of the minaret and plan conservation measures.
Meanwhile, UNESCO said that access to the Minaret of Jam had improved following the completion of a bridge.
The bridge was built in cooperation with national and international experts, paving the way for emergency interventions and safer travel for residents.
According to the organization, the Aga Khan Foundation, with financial support from ALIPH, has undertaken measures to strengthen the structural integrity and stability of the Minaret of Jam and ensure the long-term preservation of the historic monument.
UNESCO emphasized that protecting the Minaret of Jam means safeguarding Afghanistan’s cultural heritage and preserving it for future generations.
