The International Organization for Migration (IOM) says that military clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan have displaced more than 66,000 people in border provinces.
The organization on Thursday, 5 March, expressed concern in a report about the intensifying military clashes and their impact on civilians, especially returnees
The Organization has confirmed that, as a result of the military clashes, one of the returnee transit centers was damaged
The report states: “Escalating tensions increase the risk of further displacement, deportations, and spontaneous returns from neighboring countries, which cause additional pressure on border provinces and humanitarian systems.”
The agency stated that most of the families who had escaped the earthquake in Kunar have been affected by the recent tensions and displaced once again.
The IOM has called on both sides of the conflict not to target civilians and to protect civilian infrastructure.
Various United Nations agencies have expressed their concern over the escalating tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban.
