Local sources in Balkh Province say that unidentified armed men have killed Karim Agha, a Turkmen community elder, in the provincial capital.
Sources confirmed on Monday, 8 December, that the incident occurred while Karim Agha, a resident of Mazar-e-Sharif, was on his way to work in central Balkh.
According to the sources, the unidentified gunmen fled the scene after opening fire, and the motive for the attack remains unclear.
They added that Karim Agha was a prominent Turkmen elder in Balkh and had played an active role in mediating local disputes.
Sources further noted that the incident may be linked to his critical stance on ethnic discrimination.
Despite the Taliban’s claims of having ensured security, targeted killings and attacks by unidentified armed individuals have increased in several provinces in recent months.
