US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Greenland is highly important for space operations and missile defense.
Fox News reported early Tuesday, September 29, that Rubio’s remarks about Greenland came after the United States and Denmark reached an agreement concerning the island.
According to the report, Rubio said Greenland is more important today than ever as competition in the Arctic intensifies.
Rubio pointed to China and other countries seeking greater influence over emerging Arctic shipping routes.
His remarks came after US President Donald Trump reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland that guarantees the United States permanent military access to the island.
