The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that, with financial support from the Italian government, it is supporting seven primary healthcare centres in Afghanistan to help them continue providing essential health services to returnees and people in need.
The organisation reported on Tuesday, September 22, that the support includes technical and operational assistance to seven health centres in areas where people continue to face challenges in accessing healthcare services.
Edwin Ceniza Salvador, WHO Representative in Afghanistan, said that for families living far from major cities, timely access to healthcare services depends on the availability of essential services close to where they live.
He added that, with the support of the Italian government, the United Nations is assisting health centres so they can continue providing services to people, including returnees.
The World Health Organization thanked the Italian government for its support in ensuring the continued provision of essential health services to families and people in Afghanistan.
