The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that two weeks after the deadly earthquakes in Afghanistan, thousands of survivors in Kunar Province remain displaced, with limited access to health and medical services.
In a report published on Tuesday, September 16, the organization stated that most of the survivors are now settled in temporary camps, where conditions remain fragile.
Poor sanitation, weak waste management, and a shortage of healthcare facilities have heightened the risk of disease outbreaks.
According to the report, outside the camps, families living in remote and mountainous villages face growing vulnerability with the onset of winter, increasing the risks of illness and death.
Meanwhile, the WHO said that of the 21 health centers assessed in Kunar and Nangarhar, one was completely destroyed, while 20 others sustained partial damage.
The report also noted that four hospitals have been treating earthquake victims, where more than 1,000 cases of severe injuries have been addressed so far, and 491 surgical operations have been performed.
